With the merger of the two school systems on July 1, 2013, now more than ever we need your support to meet the goal of providing the best tools and opportunities for learning to all 140,000 students in the new unified school system. This year the Shelby County Schools Education Foundation in partnership with the Memphis/Shelby County Law Enforcement Foundation, UofM Tigers Head Basketball Coach Josh Pastner, Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell and Shelby County District Attorney General Amy Weirich present the 13th Annual Shelby County Schools Education Foundation Race for Education providing “Safer, Stronger and Smarter Schools”.
The excitement is set for November 8, 2014 at Agricenter Farmers Market. Join us for a 3 Mile run/1mile Family Fun Walk. The 3 Mile race will begin promptly at 9:00 A.M. followed by the 1 mile Family Fun Walk shortly thereafter. There will be entertainment, fun and prizes for children of all ages, so be sure to get there early. This is a Memphis Runner's Track Club sanctioned event and medals will be given to the top three runners in each age group as well as overall winners. Early mail-in, online or school turn-in registration is $20.00 until October 29, 2014. After that the registration fee is $25.00. Online registration ends 11/5/14. Walk-up Registration will be available on race day, fee is $25.00. Shirts will be given while supplies last on the day of the race.
The "Race for Education" was started in 2001 by a group of parents who wanted to help raise much needed funds for programs, such as art, music and physical education that were scheduled to be cut to balance the school's budget. Thanks to the generous donations of our sponsors, proceeds from the registration fees, go directly back to the classroom. The proceeds from registration fees go directly to the Unified Shelby County District Schools or Memphis/Shelby County Law Enforcement Foundation that you designate on your registration. Each school will decide with the help of principals, parents and teachers, how to best use the funds they receive from the proceeds of the race. We are celebrating our 13th anniversary of the race this year as well as welcoming our new partners the Memphis/Shelby County Law Enforcement Foundation ....come join the festivities!
